Katie Doherty is an avid reader and writer. And who better to read and write with than a gaggle of 6th graders in Portland, Oregon? Through reading and writing workshops in her 6th grade language arts classroom, Katie and her students work to build the essential community they need to thrive as readers, writers, learners, and thinkers. Together, they all learn to take risks.
In her eight years as an educator, Katie has had the opportunity to present at the National Council of Teachers of English annual convention, and at various Choice Literacy workshops. When she is not being crafty or playing outside, she can be found working on an upcoming Choice Literacy Publications e-book on using book clubs in the secondary classroom. Katie can also be spotted moonlighting as an adjunct instructor for the Lewis and Clark College Reading Endorsement program. This helps her to continue her own learning while helping others delve into the teaching of literacy.
