Contributor: Franki Sibberson

Franki Sibberson has worked for over 20 years as an educator in many different roles - teaching children in a variety of elementary grades, assisting struggling readers in an intervention position, guiding literacy programs K - 12 in the central district office, as an elementary librarian and leading workshops for teachers at the state, regional, and national level.

Her writing and video work as a lead contributor for Choice Literacy keeps us updated on the latest and greatest books as well as practical "how-tos" on assessment, comprehension, word work, technology and more. Franki is the co-author with Karen Szymusiak of many books and videos on teaching reading in the intermediate grades, including Beyond Leveled Books, Still Learning to Read, Day-to-Day Assessment in the Reading Workshop, Bringing Reading to Life, and Making the Most of News Magazines.

Franki also writes regularly on the blog she shares with Mary Lee Hahn, A Year of Reading.

Here are some things you may not know about Franki:

Pets: We have one dog, Chloe--she is a Shihtzu

Hobbies: reading, baking, getting together with friends, writing, running

Favorite Place to Visit: Disney World!

Guilty Pleasure: I love to watch back to back episodes of What Not to Wear.

Item on My Bucket List: The whole idea of a bucket list stresses me out so I don't have one.

Favorite Music on My iPod:  I have a disaster mix of music. I only really listen to music when I run on the treadmill. The Wicked soundtrack is my favorite at the moment, especially Defying Gravity.

Accomplishment Most Proud: My two girls are great but they are their own accomplishments, I think. Other than that, I make a great iced cut-out cookie:-)

What Makes Me Laugh: I love surprising humor--so it isn't predictable what will make me laugh.

Love Shopping For: shoes and everything else

Best Snack in the World: Laffy Taffy (if that can be considered a snack)
