Launching Literature Circles: Coaching, Collaborating and Reflecting (VIDEO)
Literature circles are an important component of many elementary and secondary classrooms. Yet for all their power, they can be difficult to launch and sustain with students who may have little experience participating in peer-led discussions.
In this eight-minute video, literacy specialist Jennifer Allen and fourth-grade teacher Carolyn Bridges launch literature circles for the first time in Carolyn's fourth-grade classroom. Jessica, a new teacher, observes in preparation for launching literature circles with her own students. Jessica uses an observation form designed by Jennifer.
