By the end of the primary grades, children have mastered the alphabet, a sense of story, and the basics of writing workshops. What's next for young writers in transition? For many, a unit on revision makes sense because it helps them see a multitude of ways to refine and improve their writing. This video highlights the lessons, strategies, and goals of a writing unit of study on revision in Franki Sibberson's intermediate classroom, as Franki helps students focus on honing their drafts.
The DVD includes sample whole-class lessons on fonts, character development, revision tools, goal setting, and titles. These lessons are integrated with inndividual conferences and small group instruction on leads and text features. The companion CD presents suggestions for using the DVD in workshop settings, student samples, and templates to accompany the lessons.
Franki Sibberson is a grades 3 and 4 teacher in Dublin, Ohio. She is the co-author (with Karen Szymusiak) of the books Beyond Leveled Books and Still Learning to Read, both available through Stenhouse Publishers. Franki is a frequent contributor to Choice Literacy.
